Sun protection in winter

Winter sun is often much stronger than assumed – light surfaces such as snow and ice reflect UV radiation and so can double the sun’s intensity. When skiing in the mountains, please consider that UV rays are stronger at higher altitudes, and during winter. In addition, the skin is more sensitive in winter.

Experts recommend wearing sunblock even in winter, if you are exposed to sunlight for more than 15 minutes. During sporting activities you should wear sunblock of at least SPF 30 to 50+. If you want to prepare your skin for UV radiation in winter, you can start taking sun protection capsules 4 weeks before your skiing holiday. They contain substances such as beta-carotene and lycopene which revitalize cells from inside and are supposed to ensure a more intensive tan.  

Also your lips need special sun protection. The thin skin of your lips cracks easily and reacts very sensitive to sun. A Panthenol lip balm with SPF is therefore indispensable in winter. Sunscreen sticks blend well into the skin and are ideal for sporting activities.
