Adapters for digital imaging with smartphone and camera

HEINE smartphone and camera adapters make digital photography with the dermatoscope easier for medical professionals.

If a dermatoscopic image is required, the first question is for what purpose it should be used and in what quality the medical photograph should be taken.

Taking photos with a smartphone or camera

For regular documentation, an image taken with a smartphone and dermatoscope is usually sufficient. For clinical photographers or study purposes, dermatoscopic photos in very high resolution are often required. The dermatoscope can be connected to a professional digital single-lens reflex camera (DSLR) or a mirrorless camera (DSLM) to achieve the required high quality.

Depending on the camera used, HEINE offers an adapter solution.

Which adapter is best for me?

1. Connection of the dermatoscope to smartphones

Skin images for documentation purposes can be taken quickly and in very good quality using a smartphone and a dermatoscope. A stable connection between the dermatoscope and the smartphone ensures easy handling. HEINE offers two options for this: either via a universal adapter that can be used with a wide variety of smartphone types or via a mobile phone case that fits the smartphone.

With the universal smartphone adapter mag, the dermatoscope is connected to a smartphone in just a few steps. Once set up, the instrument only needs to be attached magnetically with a click and is immediately ready for use.

Custom-fit mounting cases smartphone for Apple iPhone* for dermatoscopes enable quick connection for digital dermatoscopic documentation.

  • Available for HEINE DELTA 30 PRO, DELTA 30, DELTAone and HEINE iC1

2. Connection of the dermatoscope to professional digital cameras

Particularly high-quality medical images of skin are produced when a dermatoscope is connected to a digital SLR or SLM camera. For use with HEINE DELTA 30 PRO and DELTA 30 dermatoscopes, HEINE offers camera adapters for a range of cameras including Canon, Nikon and Sony.

Which camera adapter is most suitable depends on whether you want to take pictures without changing lenses or whether you require the highest quality of detail.

The SLR | SLM Camera Adapter flow is suitable for a simpler workflow without interruptions.

If, on the other hand, the highest image quality for dermatoscopic detailed images is the priority, we recommend an SLR | SLM Camera Adapter.

SLR | SLM Camera Adapter flow - for a simple workflow

With this adapter, the photographer can quickly switch between dermoscopic overview and detail images during the diagnosis process. The SLR | SLM Camera Adapter flow is connected to a DSLR or DSLM camera and a HEINE dermatoscope.

The camera lens and the adapter can remain on the camera for both detailed and overview images - no need to interrupt the dermoscopic skin images by attaching a different lens. The autofocus of the camera can still be used with this adapter attachment.
