Laryngoscopes

A laryngoscope – also known as a laryngeal mirror – is a medical instrument that is used to view the upper respiratory tract and larynx. It consists of a handle and a curved blade with an integrated light conductor that is inserted into the patient’s mouth to help lift the epiglottis. This enables practitioners to accurately perform procedures, such as placing a breathing tube during endotracheal intubation.

Nowadays, the preferred way of performing laryngoscopy is with a video system, such as the HEINE visionPRO video laryngoscope. A Mac 3 or Mac 4 blade is generally used for this. A more curved blade – the HEINE visionPRO HyMac 3 single-use blade – is also available should the anatomical conditions require it.

HEINE laryngoscope blades are available as single-use or reusable blades in a variety of designs such as Macintosh, Miller, Paed and WIS.

We design HEINE laryngoscope handles to be reusable handles operated with standard batteries or rechargeable batteries. A single-use laryngoscope handle shell can also be used to reliably prevent cross-contamination.
